A reminder about our beautiful Pegasus

Pegasus (ancient Greek Πήγασος / Pegasos, Latin Pegasus) is one of the best known fantastical creatures in Greek mythology. He is a winged divine horse, usually white in color. He was sired by Poseidon, in his role as horse-god, and foaled by the Gorgon Medusa. He was the brother of Chrysaor, born at a single birthing when his mother was decapitated by Perseus. Greco-Roman poets write about his ascent to heaven after his birth and his obeisance to Zeus, king of the gods, who instructed him to bring lightning and thunder from Olympus. Friend of the Muses, Pegasus is the creator of Hippocrene, the fountain on Mt. Helicon. He was captured by the Greek hero Bellerophon near the fountain Peirene with the help of Athena and Poseidon. Pegasus allows the hero to ride him to defeat a monster, the Chimera, before realizing many other exploits. His rider, however, falls off his back trying to reach Mount Olympus. Zeus transformed him into the constellation Pegasus and placed him in the sky. There are theories that ascribe the origin of Pegasus to Pihassassa, the ancient god of thunderstorms in Hittite mythology.
The symbolism of Pegasus varies with time. Symbol of wisdom and especially of fame from the Middle Ages until the Renaissance, he became one symbol of the poetry and the creator of sources in which the poets come to draw inspiration, particularly in the 19th century. Pegasus is the subject of a very rich iconography, especially through the ancient Greek pottery and paintings and sculptures of the Renaissance. Personification of the water, solar myth, or shaman mount, Carl Jung and his followers have seen in Pegasus a profound symbolic esoteric in relation to the spiritual energy that allows to access to the realm of the gods on Mount Olympus.

4,340 kilometres round trip

A rested Pegasus carried the traveldiva all this way from the Mornington Peninsula via Canberra to the Gold Coast and back to Mornington. What an amazing trip. We have some of the most awesome scenery and I look forward to many more trips exploring my own 'backyard'.

All along our highways are fabulous rest areas to stop for a breather or to spread out your sleeping bag and stay the night.

Happy holidays!

TravelDiva returns

The traveldiva returns from an amazing adventure cruising the ports of Asia and the Orient. Australia's close position to our Northern neighbours continues to indicate the connectiveness or our mutual relationships. Although our cultures have their differences it is most apparent that we are really all the same.

I hardly need to place a worded description next to these images......

Herbert Island

Pegasus is enjoying his break on Herbert Island and just making short trips outside of his safety zone until his leg is healed. Won't be long now. The Angel of the North is in constant contact and and soothes the loving soul of this magnificent horse. His lustrous hide is starting to bloom once more and his experience with the black dog has taught him a little more of life and what he needs to do to stay on his journey.

Herbert Island is a special special place. Doesn't look much to the outside world but it is compact and warm and offers retreat from the madness of the world. It is easy to dream of swaying palms, soft sandy beaches and warm, caressing turquoise water. Ahhhhh................

The Black Dog

The big black dog has been chasing Pegasus and has bitten him on the hind leg. The beautiful winged horse is taking a break to get his strength back. He has been visited by healing angels in particular the angel from another land in the North who comes in the disguise of a leopard.

Rest Day

Pegasus has a sore back today. His friends read him this poem.....If I had a donkey and he wouldn't go would I whip him no no no. I'd put him in the stable and give him some corn and rub his little tummy till his back got warm. (Author unknown). They bought him a beautiful pressie to put a smile on his face.

Glorious Day in Mornington

A sparkling day today following a full moon last night. Pegasus curls up at night inside the big hand of his protector. It takes a little bit of time to fold his wings into a comfortable position and then he drifts off into a peaceful and deep slumber.

These beautiful birds are some more friends of Pegasus. They all have great fun racing in the skies. The birds catch a lift with Pegasus when they feel tired

Pegasus in the Park

Pegasus has found the most peaceful spot right in the heart of the city of Melbourne. Fitzroy Gardens is a gem just opposite Treasury Place and an ideal place to have a little brisk trot or stretch out flat gallop across the grassy slopes.

He has spent a bit of time getting to know the 'River God' but dont drink the water as it is recycled.

Lazy Mornington Day

Mornington has taken a few hours to wind up today. Everyone is taking it easy before the return to work. Nice and cruisy brekkie at Paula's, a touch of shopping at Cotton On and morning tea at 115 Main Street.

Easy peasy......

Welcome 2011

The first day of a new year promises much hope love and opportunity. The baggage of 2010 has been left behind and a freshness and vitality awaits as I write my new chapter in this second decade of the 21st century.
